Case Study : Röhlig-Grindrod Logistics

The Brief

Röhlig-Grindrod Logistics is an international Air/Sea Freight and Project logistics service provider operating from Sub-Saharan Africa. With a mission statement of “high quality, high touch, high tech”. They wanted to:

  • Develop a bespoke head-office for Röhlig-Grindrod Logistics as part of their warehousing expansion requirement.
  • The new building design and fit-out to accommodate the evolving nature of the business efficiently.

The Result

The following was put in place for Röhlig-Grindrod Logistics:

  • The building is made up of two wings with a central atrium. The atrium is the casual hub of the building, encouraging employee interaction. It has been furnished with various seating options for different functions, including work lounges, meeting areas and staff dining areas.
  • The design style is achieved with the use of quality materials and selected furniture items. The inclusion of green walls, large planters, textures and natural finishes, incorporate the tactile, sensory, design philosophy.
  • Corporate branding instills a sense of pride and establishment which filters through the building. This concept connects destinations within the space, which facilitates staff collaboration, as well as areas designed to enhance client relations.
  • A number of meeting rooms have been provided, as well as a training facility with access to the informal break-away spaces.
  • The open-plan layout allows the opportunity for communication and knowledge-sharing.  The modular workstations, are part of a plug-in plug-out philosophy, whereby a cluster of desks can be replaced by manager’s workstations or a cellular office.
  • Supporting the open-plan areas are quiet rooms and telephone booths so that important phone calls or focus work can be done in private, without disturbing other colleagues.

Röhlig-Grindrod Logistics wanted to create an office space that inspires professionalism, while stimulating an unorthodox way of thinking in their working environment. The office space was designed to meet their objectives, and enable staff to function successfully in a work environment, where they have the choice of where and how to work throughout their day.
