Orica South Africa is part of a multi-national corporation that is one of the world’s largest providers of commercial explosives and blasting systems to the mining, quarrying, oil and gas industries.

The brief

The move to new premises, brought with it an opportunity to create an environment that reflected their industry, and to provide an office environment that is comfortable, professional and subtly references Africa.

The result

  • A quiet, elegant style was chosen to create a back drop for the floor to ceiling wall murals that represent Orica’s industry.
  • The corporation’s identifying blue is threaded throughout the interior as a subtle reminder of the brand and works well with the warm tones of the soft greys, timber accents and crisp white furnishings. A grown-up reference to Africa’s traditional patterns is displayed in the wall panelling and is offset with the Orica blue in the soft seating.
  • At the heart of Orica is the simple, yet inviting staff café, which encourages employee interaction and team spirit.
  • Blocks of greys and blues in the open plan areas’ carpeting, livens up a practical area and works well with the 120° workstations.
  • Branded, white-board walls were provided for the quick recording of that impromptu and informal meeting of minds, encouraging any or all ideas, in anticipation of the next big break through!

Orica now have an exciting space to call home that is contemporary yet warm and attractive, fun, yet practical and conducive for great interaction with employees and clients.
